What’s New In Our Building, La Casa?

In early 2008 the Community of Christ began renovating 1,150 square feet in our building at 3166 Mount Pleasant Street NW. This commenced after we affirmed our long-held commitment to making La Casa an offering to the community: an offering of gathering space for groups, and an offering of space for nonprofits that reflect our vision. The renovations are designed to enhance and improve the spaces routinely used.

Five renovated rooms became occupied in December by two new tenants: the D.C. Language Access Coalition and Amani ya Juu.

D.C. Language Access Coalition is an alliance of community-based and civil rights organizations that advocate for language access rights within the District of Columbia.

Amani ya Juu is an African stitching and peacebuilding project for marginalized women. AmaniDC is the U.S. retail location and warehouse that sells originally designed handbags, home decor, jewelry, clothing, and children’s items.

In addition, work to renovate the main, open space in La Casa continues and was completed in early 2009.

Please stop by La Casa to meet our new tenants. Also, we welcome you to the Community of Christ’s weekly worship service at 10:30 am on Sunday.

About Us

We are a lay-led Christian ecumenical fellowship with members from many denominational backgrounds, including Lutheran, Methodist, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Mennonite, Roman Catholic, and Evangelical Covenant. As a community rooted in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, D.C., we are committed to a vision of our neighborhood and city as places where all people have a voice in shaping a civic life together.

We have owned La Casa since 1974. From the beginning, it has served as a resource to the Mount Pleasant community as well as groups who work toward the common good. In addition to providing space for the Community of Christ’s activities, it serves as a place for meetings, activities and programming, and houses one neighborhood group.
